Last day on Borkum :(

Today we said goodbye to Borkum. Much sadness…seen here in Maxischen’s face L So sad. Goodby sunshine on a rainy day, Carla and Leo, eis (ice cream) at 1030 in the morning…back to the program, everyone.

The Borkum Rotary led by Harald and Herr Stein took us on the toy train out to Borkum Harbor. We boarded the ferry this time, (no catamarand) and dragged 100lbs of luggage to the bowels of the ship. Oh my God I thought I had given myself a hernia..and let me tell you I packed LIGHT (sort of). Anyway our trip on the sea was short, only one hour and then the hand off from the Borkum team to the Meppen team. They exclaimed over the heaviness of our luggage and then we were packed into cars and on our way to Pappenburg.

We toured first the harbor where the ship must leave the dry dock. The Celebrity Equinoz is having its debut tomorrow morning at 630am. It leaves the dry dock and sits in the harbor for a couple of weeks to test it out and have the really tall stuff added to the top. Then it makes its way about 70km down the River Ems to the North Sea. It is a sight to see this giant cruise ship coming down the littlest river you ever saw (we didn’t see it happen, only on a video :)) Anyway we toured the facility and then back in the cars to meet our host families. I must confess I had a very hard time staying awak as Leo, Carla and I stayed up much to late my last night there, but we arrived in Meppen and then I was escorted to Irene’s house.

Irene is a lovely school teacher who also makes the beautiful sculptures. She also is the proud owner of small horse sized dog named Bernhard. She also has a fun Irish setter named Jennie. She made us (I am staying with my team mate Virginia) some fresh salmon with broccoli, rice and veggies for dinner. Hmmm leche!!

Well I will sign off for tonight and see you all after the District Conference.
