Peat moss, Holland and castles, what do they have in common?

herr Finkenbush!!

This was our schedule today. This morning we went to Klassman Deilmann to visit and learn about the production of peat moss. Now I must admit in my own limited knowledge the only thing I knew about peat moss was that it was used for heat in Ireland - thank you historical romance novels. However we soon found out that peat moss is used all over the world and many other interesting facts...like peat moss is running out (not any time soon, but...) and the white peat is no longer available in Germany. In the 1930s i think the German government decided to take all the peat bogs or moors and drain them giving them agriculture land to farm. However those peat bogs that have been drained and harvested by Klassman Deilmann are now being refilled with water to create new peat bogs. However since peat only grows about 1 cetimenter per 100 years, I think harvesting won't be in our time :) Here are pictures of Klassman Deilmann's logo, their retail brand Fleurella and the team, Herr Finkenbush and our guide in the factory.

After our tour we drove to Holland for a lunch and a small walk around. The town was Otomarsum where we had a lovely walk around town full of wonderful art, which is featured below. The whole town was just chalk full! I really liked it and we had excellent weather :)

We ended the day with one last tour of a castle, but this was a real castle...moat and all! Well the moat isn't there anymore, but it was still amazing. I will post some pictures that I took below, but soon will post an ariel view as soon as I can!
