Sorry to all for not posting these last two days

The sun is very strong here and even though we have leisure time I am sleeping like I am dead....ahhh you know what I mean!

Anyway, so yesterday we took a tour of the city of Borkum. I say city and I really mean town. It is super small, everyone knows everyone and whenever one of the team says Moin (hello) we get a laugh (tee hee). I got up at 630AM! to have breakfast with my host family Leo and Carla and as many of you know the early it is the harder it is for me to function, but they are so friendly and loving I really wanted to chat. As Leo is a pharmacist and works during the week I don't have many other opportunities to chat with him. Featured is their house with the American flag honoring my stay with them :)

During our walk today I learned on the walk that Borkum in the 1700s to the 1900s was a whaling town and made much money in those times. They used all parts of the whale like most towns did in those days and had a huge lighthouse to guide ships along their way. If your husband was a whaler he would be away for about a year while you stayed on the island with your family. Hard life...

Anyway, after our tour of the city courtesy of Harald the Rotary president and Herr Schneiber we ate lunch at the Upholm Hof. Wonderful fish with home made and home grown veggies.
There was a live band playing mostly American music, and it was great. We walked into the assembly line of food, there was a giant pirate that looked lonely, so thus a picture was made.

As we finished our weisse beir (white beer, very bitter) we looked into the restaurant proper as all of the above was outside and I saw a horse buggy suspended in the ceiling with vines. I have no idea why they did this, but it was awesome.

Our tour brought us back to town where one had just enough time to spruce up and attend the welcome dinner held at the Nordsee Hotel. The hotel was lovely with a huge buffet of fish, and fish, and more fish. I tried EVERYTHING... a little bit, but everything. I found that there is a berry on the island named Sanddorn. They make an alcoholic drink from it that was quite tasty.

All in all the day was super successful and I had a wonderful time meeting all my new friends. Thank you Harald for a great day and I hope for many more to come!
