Whew late posts

Here we go...to catch up on a couple of days
Okay so today we met for a biking trip around the island. The weather was iffy and left something to be desired, but we were all excited to try it! After some deliberation with the bike rental associates it was determined that two members of the team need children's bikes. In Borkum the bikes are ridden with a very high seat and equally high handle bars to promote good health and posture. All the bikes are beautifully kept and have adjustable baskets, attaches that everyone uses. There were people of all ages that rode them too, which was lucky because with the Borkum penchant for "eis" ice cream they must ride them A LOT :)!!

We rode for about 4km and then stopped at a small airport where surprise!!! The GSE team got to go up in an airport for a birds eye view of the island! It was amazing. Our pilot Stefan was super kind and pointed out where we had biked and the different islands one could see from the air. We dipped down to view the protected land that the sea lions inhabit and the most beautiful view of the harbor of Borkum ever. Thank you Harald, Ernie, Herr Pershca and Stefan for such a wonderful treat!

As we moved along on our day trip we boarded the bikes again and were off. As we traveled more of the island landscape revealed itself to us. There were sand dunes of indistinct brown covered in such beautiful roses, a bike trail under a covered canopy of weeping willows just dipping down to the touch the ground, remenants of WWII that nature has grown over so much you must have it pointed out to you to even see it. Just beautiful! So we made it the Rose Bunker the highest point on the island. It was a WWII bunker that has been covered in red roses, which looked like a Rose of Shannon. I fell in love with the view on this island. If only they had an opera company (sigh)...

After our bike ride, came a "spot 'o tea", but what tea...Ostfriesian tea thank you very much with a side order of wurst aaaaannnnnddddd rum cake (mmmmm!) I have bought some of the Frisian tea and intend to dole it out only on special occasions, so if you are lucky!

After a welcome repast of tea and cake came a little rest and then back out in the wind and storm to the Heimliche Liebe or "secret love" tee hee :) A 10 minute walk down the stormy promenade gave a new appreciation for what the inhabitants must live with during the winter and perhaps storm season, (whew!) Dinner was lovely with a small concert given by yours truly and featured below.

ENJOY!!
By the way I got a new haircut and although it is in the video it is not featured to its best so no judgement til you see it!!!
